248 International Amateurs Approved by Safe MMA for 2017 IMMAF World Championships

This week’s 2017 IMMAF World Championships in Manama (Bahrain), saw 248 amateur athletes medically approved to compete by Safe MMA.

Competitors for the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation’s nation vs nation tournament were required to complete annual medical examinations and blood tests for HIV, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C.

In addition to this, IMMAF protocol sees athletes undergo pre- and post-fight medical examinations, and those experiencing head trauma to be referred for CT scans of the brain. Outstanding on site and off site medical care was provided by the Bahrain Defence Force Hospital led by Dr Aljulanda, working with IMMAF’s Medical Committee – Dr.David Wang (USA), Prof. Dan Healy (Ireland) and Dr Basharon (USA).

Over 4 days of competition so far, there have been no serious injuries. Today sees the conclusion of the 2017 IMMAF World Championships with its finals and medals ceremony.

Hosted by the Bahrain MMA Federation, the tournament is endorsed by Bahrain’s national  Olympic Committee.
